Reims were so impressive at the start of the season but have since tailed off and are in need of a big home performance to get them back to winning ways.

Stade Reims came on to the scene with a bang when they beat Nice and Lyon in their opening two games. These were matches that they were probably looking to just keep from getting out of hand but Reims made a great impression of themselves and were fully deserving of these six points.

Since then, they haven’t won any of their matches and have only scored three goals in their last six. Of a possible last 21 points available, Reims have only garnered four of those and that quality on the top end of the pitch has disappeared. They have actually still been pretty impressive defensively with four of their last five games ending 0-0 as they managed to keep Bordeaux and Nantes quiet for 90 minutes. They have actually only conceded more than one goal in a game twice this season, which is a great feat for a promoted club.

They have managed to keep the defensive part of the game tight but offensively they have been awful. Even against weak teams like Nimes and Guingamp they have failed to break through and the front four of Reims led by Pablo Chavarria has probably been the worst attacking unit in the league. The main aim over the international break was probably to fix this issue and it will be interesting to see if they still operate with a 4-2-3-1 as Chavarria is actually a pretty impressive striker who scored 14 goals in Ligue 2 last season. He has to be given better support if Reims want to improve but this match against Angers will be a great opportunity to experiment as the Scoistes aren’t an overly impressive side so with a good crowd behind them, Reims should be doing everything to assure a positive result here.

Angers have been in mixed form recently with a win and two draws in their last four games. They did well to recover from an early season scare which saw them lose each of their opening three games and have now solidified themselves in mid-table but should really be aiming to progress further up the standings.

Angers have had some really high points this season like their wins over Monaco and Lille but one of the worst results of any team was their defeat at the hands of Guingamp. Their opponents had only picked up one point from seven games before the match and Angers were unbeaten in four matches but the Scoistes managed to lose this game 1-0 at home. Angers had 60% of the possession but really lacked the killer edge that Guingamp, of all teams, showed.

Angers needed a 93rd minute Romain Thomas goal to draw 2-2 with Strasbourg last time out which might have shown signs of regression in the Angers ranks. Angers have won two and lost three of their last five away games while Reims have only lost one of their last five home matches in Ligue 1. Neither team have been in great scoring form recently with four of Reims’ last five matches ending 0-0 and Angers have only scored three times in their last four games. We think this will be a tight match and not exactly a classic with Reims in dire need of points; we’re going to predict a 0-0 draw in this one.
